At one point or another in this life or another we’ve all been excluded. We’ve all been ostracized or banished. We’ve all tasted the pain of not belonging. Not fitting in. Not being accepted for who we are. We’ve all felt the sting of opening up only to be shut down. Of garnering the courage to be ourselves only to be met with laughter. We’ve all, at one time or another, felt like an outsider.
The trauma of exclusion is a human story. It’s in our bones. It shapes our neural pathways, it structures our narratives, it colours our expectations. When these wounds are alive, they incline us to turn our backs on the community that would have us distort ourselves in order to belong. They incline us toward radicalism, and insistent individuality. They lead to rebellion without direction. They make us antisocial. And understandably. This is how we protect our hearts. This is how a wounded soul tries to create a better world.
But so often our defenses linger well beyond the threat. So often we continue to follow pathways that no longer lead to our destination. So often the subtle imprint of forgotten traumas continue to shape us. And we miss out. We miss out on community, on cooperation, on building a world that isn’t so cold. We miss out on opportunities to share, to create, to play.
And the world misses out. The human community, now more than ever, needs us, needs each of us to contribute our creative gifts. Does creativity seem frivolous at a time when so much is at stake? Seriousness won’t save us. We won’t get anywhere good by being cold, by drawing lines in the sand, by turning our backs on each other. Violence makes violence.
But, what kind of world might we create, through our cumulative individual efforts coming together? Through sharing our creativity and joy?
This full moon lunar eclipse in Aquarius, Monday August 7th at 11:11am PST, is an opportunity for us to release the shadow elements of Aquarius; to overcome the trauma of exclusion and return to joy. The shadow of Aquarius can show up as insisting on feeling and being different from others, the reification of being an outsider. It can be rebellion, harshness, violence, radicalism. It can be antisocial, negative, hateful.
Often these attitudes are justified by politics. And indeed, politically, we need change. But we can choose: change through rebellion and violence driven by unhealed trauma, or change through creativity and joy fuelled by courage and love. We get to choose the colours of our revolution. We get to choose our future. (Or indeed, another choice is to make no choice, and to be swept along by the currents of those with intention).
This lunar eclipse is an opportunity to clear space, to prepare for the coming total solar eclipse in Leo on the 21st. The solar eclipse will offer gifts, opportunities for expansion and joy. The solar eclipse will guide us toward love and courage, toward creativity, self-expression, play. Toward individuality that we share, rather than individual that turns its back on humanity. The more space we clear, the space there will be for these gifts.
So what can you release now that stands in the way of Leo, that keeps you from fulfilling your creative potential, that blocks joy and heart?
This isn’t about ignoring or repressing trauma, or forcing ourselves to “get over it”. Healing requires compassion, with ourselves, and each other, and with the ways that we’ve found to cope, the patterns we’ve adapted to survive. The full moon may bring light to unhealed wounds: an opportunity to bring tenderness and love to those hurting parts of ourselves. That’s how we heal. By seeing our patterns and setting the intention to let them go when it’s clear they no longer serve us.
They want to take your pain away…. The stars, the angels, the spirits…. All you have to do is accept.
In the background, holding space for this month’s eclipses, is an ongoing fire trine linking up Uranus, the north node, and Saturn. We all know fire can burn out of control or can be channeled toward good use. This fire offers us motivation, drive, inspiration, and energy. The opportunity is to merge our innovative spirit and desire for change with our destiny and to make plans for the future. This trine asks us to take full responsibility for our lives, and to commit to our individual purpose for the sake of humanity.
Leo is the sign of royalty, while Aquarius is radically egalitarian. The union of Leo and Aquarius is a world in which every single person is their own king or queen, a radically egalitarian royalty. A world in which every person is sovereign, every person is free, every person playfully creates their reality, and collectively we make something beautiful.
