Friday (September 16th)’s Lunar eclipse at 24 degrees Pisces, exact at 12:05pm PST, 8:05pm UK, highlights the polarity between Virgo and Pisces. Virgo is analytical and discerning, notices every detail, and strives for perfection. Pisces is intuitive and empathetic, feels everything and seeks union. While Virgo desires order, Pisces dives into the chaos.
Pisces and Virgo can be at odds. Reconcile the polarity by seeing the details and accepting imperfection; by feeling into the pain to move through it; by observing, witnessing, seeing, being, but withholding judgement.
The moon conjunct Chiron can trigger past trauma, especially from early childhood. Take special care with yourself and loved ones. Keep in mind just how sensitive we all are. The upside is Chiron represents not only our wounds, but also our ability to heal; the moon represents not only our sensitivity, but our ability to nurture.
Sometimes wounds need to be triggered so that we can heal them. Sometimes we have to revisit a trauma in order to integrate it. You may wish to seek support in this potent time of healing. With the moon and Chiron in Pisces, domain of the imaginal, attend to your dreams: they carry symbols of transformation. Insight received now can have deep and lasting impact.
Passion is fuelled at the eclipse by a T-square to Mars, and still lingering square between Venus and Pluto (exact on Sept. 11th). Without consciousness, this pattern can be war-making.
Venus-Pluto can make visible underlying issues of control, manipulation, and codependency. Moon square Mars can be touchy and quick to anger, but carries the strength to lift a truck when family is threatened. When paired, these aspects can impel crimes of passion, but also ignite courage and depth.
How to work productively with this energy? Square aspects can be difficult to navigate, but there is always an opportunity. These aspects can bring to the surface issues that require our attention and offer the opportunity to address what arises. So, have that difficult talk, speak truth, say what needs to be said.
Physical activity like exercise and sex channel Mars’ fire so that the warrior planet can find fulfilment and doesn't need to pick petty fights to express itself. A trine between Mars and Uranus is conducive to adventure, creative movement (e.g. dance), courage, and independence.
Release what’s no longer needed. Go through your belongings and let go of what you no longer need. This simple process can function as a ritual, a deeply symbolic act that facilitates release on the mental and spiritual planes as well as the physical.
Let go of thought patterns, relationships, behaviours, habits that no longer serve you. With the support of the stars, letting go is easier now. Maintain compassion (Pisces) for yourself as you do so: self criticism and judgement (Virgo shadow) only amplify addiction and unhealthy patterns. Paradoxically, acceptance of addiction enables its release.
What does this mean for you, personally? This eclipse will be more or less potent for you depending on how it interacts with your natal chart (e.g. if it aspects a planet or angle). There are likely to be endings or culminations in the area of your chart where the eclipse lands. In the video below I go through each sign and how this eclipse (and more) affects you personally based on your sign. (For more specific information about how this eclipse will affect you, you can of course always book a reading with me.)
Astroyoga: Here's a video of this past Sunday's Astroyoga workshop. Since the space I'd planned to run the workshop in is closing down, I ended up holding the workshop in my living room. The video is pretty low tech, but full of info and practices to help you navigate this eclipse season.
Any time during September would be a great time for following along with the workshop--Eclipses are very powerful, and we'll continue to work with their energy throughout the month and beyond. This workshop will help you to process and understand in a deep way what these eclipses mean, including for you specifically based on your sun or rising sign.
You'll need 3 hours of uninterrupted time, comfy clothes, a journal and pen, and some cushions or a yoga bolster. There are a couple parts where it's hard to hear workshop participants speaking (sorry)--you could use these parts for journalling. ;)
The workshop begins with an opening meditation, then we discuss this month's astrology: two eclipses, mercury retrograde, and Jupiter shifting into Libra. About half way through we take a break (you might take a break here too!), then we do about an hour of gentle yoga which taps into this month's energies.
The yoga is pretty accessible. You definitely don't need experience with yoga in order to participate. If for any reason you can't do any of the poses, I also offer lots of prompts and things to think about, so you could always lie on your back and follow along that way.
I encourage you to write down your insights in a journal throughout the workshop, and/or immediately after.
Please let me know what you think. <3
