Tuesday, March 8th, at 5:45pm PST, there’s a total solar eclipse in Pisces, made all the more powerful by its conjunction to Neptune, Mercury, Venus, and Chiron all in Pisces as well, and opposite Jupiter, square Saturn.
Pisces is the fish, immersed in the sea of feeling, of the collective unconscious: the boundless waters of the repressed and marginalized. The feelings, urges, thoughts, and people our society rejects, ignores, pushes aside. Pisces knows individuality is incomplete--porous--ultimately illusory. And what we push aside is still within us. The divisions are in our own hearts. Healing begins with that awareness.
Honour Pisces by enjoying water, by creating, and dreaming. Walk in the rain, cry, take baths, drink tea, be by the sea. Sing, dance, draw, paint, make poetry--not for the result, but for the process. Pisces isn’t about goals, but about Being itself. Take time for this. Allow yourself to daydream, let your imagination play.
Water angles the light, plays with our vision, makes object appear to shift and ripple, creating illusions. It’s beautiful, it’s dreamy under the water, but it’s a not a place to see clearly. It’s not a place for discernment or decisive action.
Confusion is to be expected. Now is not the time for clear thinking, or for making decisions. Now is the time to feel. Fighting or ignoring feelings doesn’t make them go away. Feelings require attention, and nurturance. Feelings wish to show us something, they wish to teach us. What the teaching is will not be immediately clear.
Eclipses signal powerful moments of release, of endings and beginnings, major transformations and shifts in our very modes of being. What is it time to let go of? Relationships, jobs, living situations--anything--that no longer serves--now is the time to move on.
But! Before making any major decisions, ask whether it is the external circumstance that needs to change, or whether perhaps the shift that needs to occur is internal. Sometimes, it is indeed time to end a relationship, etc. But sometimes, the desire to end some circumstance, really signals a need to end some dynamic or pattern of thought. You don’t need to know what to do--not yet. Just feel. The right course of action will emerge soon enough.
With its conjunction to Chiron, the wounded healer, there is a powerful opportunity for healing now. Noticing the patterns of thought and behaviour that keep us closed off, keep us in fear, keep us from fully connecting with others, or living up to our potential. It’s a powerful moment to release patterns of co-dependency, and neediness. Patterns of self-doubt, and small-mindedness.
See it. Imagine holding the pattern and releasing it into the Earth. Breath out what is no longer needed. Breath it into the Earth. The Earth has the power and compassion to take our waste and turn it into fertile soil. Thank you, Earth.
To heal, we need compassion for our own pain, our wounds, and the not always healthy ways we’ve learned to cope. Can we hold ourselves? Can we see ourselves just as we are? Can we forgive ourselves completely even as we are so imperfect?
Pisces dissolves boundaries. We may be more attuned to the feelings and thoughts of others. The gift is compassion and universal love. The opportunity is to see how deeply we are all connected. That the best in humans lies in each of us--as does the worst. The potential is to overcome “us vs. them”--to heal by seeing beyond the divide.
The danger is losing our sense of self, our centre. The risk is taking on others’ pains as our own, of losing ourselves in the deep, haunting sorrow of the world, of giving too much of ourselves, of losing the boundaries that keep us safe. The danger is drowning the pain.
Find faith. If faith in God is not a possibility for you, find something to believe in. Believe in life, in love. Trust the universe. Find faith in Goodness, growth, evolution. Believe there is meaning. Believe there is something beyond us that is Good, that we can’t understand. That it somehow makes sense even if we don’t know how. Find something, some ideal, some belief to hold to. We believe, not because it makes sense to do so, but because we simply choose. Choose to believe.
This is how we keep from drowning. We speak to the beyond (the universe, God, angels, guides, higher self--it matters less how we conceive it, and more, our relationship to it). We ask for help. State our desires. Ask for clarity. Wish for guidance. Answers may come in many forms--through dreams, overhead conversations, books, videos, insights. Or we may simply wake up one day with clarity.
