On Wednesday, July 1st, there is a powerful Full Moon in Capricorn. The Moon is conjunct Pluto and sextile Neptune, the Sun is conjunct Mars and trine Neptune, and both the Sun and Moon are square the North Nodes. Yowzers. This Full Moon has the potential to surface deep emotions, trigger power dynamics, and reveal tensions that were formerly unconscious. This Full Moon can be deeply healing and transformative--if we stay conscious, acknowledge our own faults, and act from love. Otherwise, we might find ourselves embroiled in ugly power plays or feeling victimized.
Pluto (Hades) is God of the Underworld. He rules the unconscious, and the shadow aspects of ourselves and others--what we don’t want to acknowledge because it’s ugly, uncomfortable, or taboo. Now is the time to go deep into your own mind and SEE your own failings, as well as your inner power. It can be hard to be honest with ourselves--to see the ways in which we are less than our best. But that acknowledgment of our own flaws can be the most healing and transformative act of courage.
Notice the ways in which you may give your power over to others--do you apologize for things that aren’t your fault? Do you defer to others when really you know what’s best? Do you remain silent when you have something valuable to contribute? Notice the ways in which you may seek power, perhaps out of a fear of powerlessness.
It’s impossible to grow if we refuse to acknowledge our own part in what holds us back. Not one of us is perfect, yet we approach perfection to the extent that we acknowledge our own imperfection. Only when we see our flaws is there a possibility for overcoming them. Only then is there the potential to choose differently.
It’s essential we hold compassion for ourselves while doing this--blaming or beating up on ourselves is not helpful. There may be some guilt or regret that arises--that’s normal, but it’s something to move through, not to get stuck in. Those emotions ask us to really acknowledge and then let go. We need to forgive ourselves in order to move on. (And when we forgive ourselves, it’s much, much easier to forgive others). Neptune is helping us here. Neptune is in a positive energy flow with the moon, helping us to use this energy for healing and transformation. Neptune helps us maintain compassion, love, and forgiveness.
The squares to the North Nodes mean we have a choice--we can choose to move forward, to align with our highest selves, or we can fall back into what is easy and habitual (blame, victimhood, martyrdom, addiction, avoidance, etc.). With Mars in the mix, there may be a strong pull toward reactivity. There may be some temptation to lash out, to impose ourselves on others, even to act aggressively. However, the reverse--not saying what you need to say, is hardly better. Mars also represents strength, assertiveness, and courage--harness these qualities of Mars to avoid warring or repressing.
Of course, as well as acknowledging our own shadow, we will be seeing other’s shadows surface as well. How will we respond? Can we maintain love and compassion for others even as they engage in less than honourable behaviour? Remember that people engage in power plays because they are insecure. That others lash out because they are wounded. Aim to express your own perspective, rest in the knowledge of your own power, maintain a connection to source.
This Full Moon highlights the polarities Mother--Father, Action--Reception, Inner--Outer, Private--Public, Family--Career. Find the balance point, where both poles are honoured. How can you be at once receptive and nurturing, while also owning your own power and ambition? How can you be assertive and compassionate, powerful and forgiving, gentle and strong? Consider your ambition, what you are working toward, and the structures and discipline that will help you get there. Consider your emotions, your vulnerability, and how acknowledging them helps you care for others.
There is an enormous amount of positive energy this week, with Venus fast approaching Jupiter, and both trining Uranus along the way, bringing opportunity, insight, luck, generosity, and creativity. They are in a tense aspect to Chiron, meaning all this positive energy is meant to help us heal, and if we misuse use it, there is a potential for wounding or being caught up in past wounds. Mercury, the mind, contacts Chiron as well. Be aware of how you use your word and thoughts. They are powerful. Will you use them to hurt or to heal?
Meditation is always a great practice. I especially encourage you to meditate this week--even five or ten minutes a day. Meditation will help us to stay conscious of our tendencies to power-plays and victimhood so we can choose differently. Meditation will help us act out of compassion and love rather than fear and insecurity. If you aren’t sure how to meditate, simply sit quietly and observe the movement of your breath. Notice thoughts as they arise, let them go, come back to breath. When you notice you’ve been caught up in your thoughts, that’s ok--it’s normal! Just gently bring your awareness back to breath. That’s it!
Harness Neptune’s potential for compassion and love and choose to step up and into your own power. Stay connected to source (Self). Our actions this week will have ramifications, they will ripple through into our futures. Act from the heart, not from the the ego. Choose to empower everyone rather than to seek power over others. Stay open for gifts and opportunities. And remember how powerful your thoughts and words are! Use them for love and healing.
