There is some intense energy brewing these days. Chances are you’ve already been feeling the impact of this astrology. Mars conjunct Jupiter trine Pluto brings energy, power, and transformation. This may elicit healing crises. In moments like this, keep in mind that crises aren’t necessarily negative. Sometimes a crisis is needed to bring something to the surface so it can be addressed. The Libran tendency to avoid ruffling feathers and maintain harmony sometimes only allows conflict to brew beneath the surface.
With the New Moon (Monday, October 12th, 5pm PST) setting off a new cycle in Libra, the focus is on relationship and balance. However, the New Moon is directly opposite Uranus, which represents a very different energy. Uranus wants to set us free, and does so by bringing or encouraging sudden shifts, insights, and lightning bolts of change and transformation. This is a good time to make a change, break free, and leave behind old ways for more freedom--freedom to be who you are, to do your work in the world, and shine your light.
Mercury sextile Saturn helps us lay down practical plans and communicate clearly. Mercury retrograde for most of September wanted us to review and reconsider our communications, agreements, and ways of relating. What have you learned? Now is the time to put that into place. Venus square Saturn challenges our relationships, values, and finances, and asks us to be real, and to consider what we really want. Venus opposite Neptune encourages us to see the ways in which we’ve been fooled by deception, illusion, and idealism, and asks us to clearly discern truth from fantasy, even while harnessing fantasy to imagine our future, and even while firmly rooting ourselves in the present.
As well as being opposite Uranus, the New Moon is loosely square Pluto, triggering the Uranus--Pluto square which characterizes the global energy for this whole decade. On a collective level, this is about evolution, revolution, and transformation, especially in our systems of economics and governance. It can be destabilizing and even induce chaos. The opportunity is to bring about global transformation in our systems so that there is more justice and peace.
This begins with greater awareness of systems of oppression, and the extent of injustice. While it’s essential we call out those people and groups who maintain oppression, the most difficult part of this work is to acknowledge the ways in which each one of us participates: oppression runs so deep that simply by being part of our culture and society, we all participate in it in ways that are nearly invisible. By looking closely, we can start to see those subtleties, and then we can choose something different.
If we want change on a global level, we need to change on an individual level too, and this aspect aims to shake us all out of our sleep, out of our habits, and out of our comfort, so that we wake up. Think about the revolution that has surely taken place in your personal life in the past few years (especially potent for the cardinal signs: Aries, Libra, Capricorn, Cancer), and how it relates to the evolution of humanity. How have you changed? It’s important to sometimes look back and acknowledge how far we’ve come. Now what do you need to do today, or in the next month, to further your personal transformation in service to your Self, and therefore, the collective?
Hint: my inkling is that we are meant to stop doing what we feel we should do, and do more of what we love. We’ve told ourselves for so long that life is difficult, work is hard, and we all have to make sacrifices. But we should ask who those ideas serve. What if life could be easy and joyful? What if it’s not necessary to be constantly busy and stressed? What if we could allow events to unfold, instead of forcing them? What if our dreams could come true if we let them go and simply trust?
